TAMAR MOGENDORFF

What would you do without a birdhouse?

Mogendorff makes her work from linen, wool, cotton, vintage fabrics, tweed, antique embroidery, pashmina and other fabrics, as well as antique and vintage buttons, beads, silver thread and old ribbons.

2 words: pure gorgeousness <3

anyone for tea?

The underwater photographer, Elena Kalis astonishes me. Recreating scenes from Alice in Wonderland in a sea of water only adds to the dreamlike, transient quality of the story she explores...titled Alice in Waterland, Kalis travels through the rabbit hole and into a world of beautiful dresses and mad hatters!

...or actually, perhaps any day of the week. I saw this and thought they were adorable and definitely worth a go at making. It can bring excitement and surprise to someone you love. Slip it in their lunchbox, wallet, rucksack and let them discover a date for the week!

THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE OF DREAMS

This entry is...approximately 6 months too late...but there's an old saying 'better late than never' which made me want to put this up. Just before Christmas, my mum bought a copy of the Sainsbury's magazine and inside was a delicious recipe for your very own gingerbread house. Now, usually I will take a trip to IKEA (yes the extremely exciting furniture store) to buy a ready-made version, but not this time!

Being someone who loves to bake things, this was an exciting prospect for me!...and I went ahead with the construction of my house...which then looked wayy too lovely to eat but eventually...when we noticed dust gathering on the rooftop, the rolling pin came out and the act of smashing it to pieces was, although a little devastating, the perfect way to get to eat some (it tasted very christmasy).

My dad also thought it would be hilariously amusing if he stuck an eviction notice to my house before we smashing it to bits...

the miniature

Well...I havn't blogged in a while and I thought that now would be a good time (prompted by my sister!) to reveal a few more secrets...

Over this term, I have been looking into the miniature and just <3 the way that our memories and possessions in our hearts can be kept so clandestine and private from the rest of the world. I picked out places of importance to me in these pieces and hope that you can follow a journey through the locations and stories within.

la la la

And here I am...almost (and I say almost in a way that means 'stop me before I do') banging my head upon the kitchen worktop in despair that I am revising Platonic and Archamedean solids for a Design Theory exam on Tuesday. Surely it can't be this boring?!

...I think it's about time I had a little fun this evening - not, of course, that revising wasn't FUN!

hot chocolate, a nice glass of beautiful French red wine and a chat with a good friend = the perfect night x

ps. except for the boyfriends having rematch after rematch of Fifa 09 Newcastle vs. Middlesborough!

maybe not the greatest evening after all....

BIG BRILLIANT BEAUTY MACHINES

I had a job in September at Getty Images in London, near Oxford Street. It was a private event for young artists and art buyers to view some of the most spectacular photography I've seen. At the end of my shift, we were all allowed to jump in (what I call "THE BIG BRILLIANT BEAUTY MACHINE") aka. a Glitterbooth

They are AMAZING - with wind machine and beauty lighting, a velvet red curtain and space-ship like outer shell, I felt like I was stepping into a photoshoot on the moon! I revisit this memory simply because I bought The Sunday Times this weekend and in it was an article titled 'Photo Finish' pages 38 - 41...if anyone else got it? all about my favourite little machine. I want one - although I think at £1,545 to hire and even more to buy...my parents wouldn't be very happy if I popped it on my Christmas list and Santa probably wouldn't get it down the chimney!

When I'm older, I'm having one in my house. I'll save up - it's a GREAT party extravaganza!!

So here are my photos...

polaroids

So, this is cool - the random, yet structured layout of the photos is like a river of thoughts. Capture the moment, your ideas, your inspirations and thoughts in colourful poloroids. Buy a poloroid cameria off eBay - I did and I don't regret it one bit! It's a load of fun and you can make the world your oyster once more...

a little thought

The world spins by, hours wasting away, seeming like minutes...seconds streaming through a sand timer, until there's nothing left. It's one of those days and there's so much going on; you're thinking a million things and you want to file them in your mind; put them in boxes, under headings and sub-categories, so you can look from A-Z through all of them and with your fingertips pick out the thought you want. You may forget one tiny thought and then everything gets worse. Much much worse.

There are the thoughts of work, life and everyday stresses or snippets of gossip. Perhaps even what you'll wear to next Friday's formal dinner you've been invited to in York. Black dress and sparkly shoes? Or maybe a sequin dress...anyway...enough of those mundane normalities.

What about the times when you take a walk in the woods and the autumn leaves are falling around you; the smell of damp rain water and mud on your wellies. And you sit on a bench and simply ponder. Thinking about nothing but everything all at one. Those simple daydreams that unravel and entwine themselves within one another.

Maybe this is the answer...

Home we go...

I think I must get this from my Dad, but there's definitely something very exciting about going home on the train. Or anywhere for that matter - expecially if it's abroad.

But unfortunately...

...these little fellas aren't around anymore!

But even so, if people aren't playing their music extremely loudly and the internet's not being temperamental and there's not a baby screaming it's head off, or on the off chance, the confectionary staff don't spill something down you or maybe, just maybe there aren't any delays -
- it can be a thoroughly enjoyable journey.

Hmph

32 days and counting...i want to make my gingerbread house!!!!

Sunday, 22 November 2009

It's almost Christmas!!

Ok. I know I know - we've still got...33 days...but it's just around the corner! I'm probably one of those annoying people who start raving about Christmas months in advance and buy my presents way too early, but who cares? I love love love presents Christmas :o)
...and presents
Oh and I love mince pies and mulled wine and those chilly winter nights when you can sit around a burning fire and snuggle up in Johnstons of Elgin blankets! I remember when I'd sit right in front of the log fire we have at home and my Dad would say "don't sit so close, you'll make yourself sick by getting too hot" - I never listened. And I never got sick.

+

+

= the perfect winter night at home <3

So even though it is still 33 days from Christmas, that doesn't (and I'm talking in ANY CIRCUMSTANCES) mean you can't enjoy a mince pie...or two or three. And some mulled wine - even if you are by yourself :o)

Keeping Secrets...

Isn't it hard when you do something or hear something and you've never told anyone but yourself - over and over. You procrastinate and think about it more and feel you have to let it out, but the longer you wait, the harder it gets to say anything and the longer you wait, the more it's trying to escape from your heart.

Well, here - some people give us a litle insight into their secrets...but you never ever find out who they are. By writing your secrets down, no matter how small they may be, it will left a weight off your chest!
